1. What is Functional Skills English?

Functional Skills English is an official UK qualification. It is tested and certified by top UK awarding bodies like Pearson Edexcel and City & Guilds. It is NOT for children in school; it is for adults.

• Speaking and Listening: Talk with people at work, with teachers, and on the telephone.
• Reading: Read letters from the council, emails, bills, and safety signs.
• Writing: Write simple emails, job application forms, and notes.

2. Is Level 2 Equal to a GCSE Grade 4 (C)?

Yes! Level 2 Functional Skills English is officially equal to a UK GCSE English grade 4 (old Grade C). Most UK employers, NHS hospitals, care homes, and universities accept this certificate instead of a school GCSE.

3. What Level Should You Start At?

You do not have to worry if your English is very basic. BFluent has levels from the very start to the top:
